How to use RPU to prepare regular and correct quarterly e-TDS/TCS statements

To prepare a regular e-TDS/TCS statement using RPU, follow these steps:

  • After downloading and installing the RPU from TIN NSDL, launch it by opening the executable JAR file. The first step couldn't be simple.
  • Click on the "OK" option to move forward. You're on the right track!
  • Determine the nature of your payment and select the appropriate TDS Return Form Type. For salary payments, choose Form 24Q.
  • Select the type of return you want to prepare (regular or correction).
  • It's time to input the necessary information. Provide details like TAN, financial year (FY), Deductor's Name and Address, and the Responsible Person's information.
  • Make sure to input the Challan details accurately. This includes the BSR Code, Challan Number, Date of Deposit, TDS Amount, and the Section. You can add multiple challans by clicking on "Add Rows" to ensure all deposits are accounted for.
  • In this section, include the details of your deductions/payments, such as PAN, Name, Payment Amount, Section, and TDS Amount.
  • Once all details are filled, click on "Create File." If there are any errors, the tool will point them out, and you should resolve them before proceeding.
  • With your file ready, it's time to add it and the Challan Inquiry File to the File Validation Utility (FVU) for TDS/TCS Return.
  • The FVU file is what you'll use to file your TDS/TCS Return. It's the final step toward successful TDS filing.

To prepare a correction e-TDS/TCS statement using RPU, follow the same steps as above, but select "Correction" as the type of return. You will also need to enter the challan number of the original return that you are correcting.


How to validate the e-TDS/TCS file using File Validation Utility (FVU)

The File Validation Utility (FVU) is a tool developed by the Income Tax Department of India to help taxpayers validate their e-TDS/TCS statements before submitting them. It is important to validate your return before submitting it to ensure that it is accurate and complete.
