Updated on: 24 May, 2024 11:33 AM

Union Budget 2019 Highlight :-

  • Now, PAN & Aadhar Number can be used interchangeabl
  • What will happen when a person :
    • -Doesn’t have PAN: Aadhar can be used to file ITR & quote at all the places where PAN is Required.
    • -Have PAN: Aadhar & PAN needs to be linked first and then any of them can be quoted at the time of filing ITR.

After Central Government made the linking of PAN with aadhaar card mandatory, there are lot of articles and news hitting the web.
Honestly, everyone in Newspapers, on social groups, etc. is telling you how to link PAN with aadhaar but no one is telling you what to do if that doesn’t happen.

Agree?
In this blogpost, we are going to explain the complete process in a step -by step manner.
The first and foremost thing is to check the details of the aadhaar with PAN. If both of them match then you will be able to link them without any worry. The service of linking is already active on e-filing portal. You can go to the Income Tax Department's website and link them, to know the detailed step-by-step process, follow the link.
But If you are the one of those people whose details do not match in PAN and aadhaar due to the differently spelt name, incorrect date of birth, gender or if your name has been changed due to the marriage or any other reason. Then for linking both of them you either need to update the details of aadhaar or correct the details of PAN Card.
First we will start with the process of updating / correcting your aadhaar details:

STEP – 1

Go to the aadhaar website i.e. https://uidai.gov.in/

STEP- 2

You'll see aadhaar online services. You have to navigate to the middle column and click on the option Update aadhaar Details (online)

STEP- 3

The new portal will open aadhaar Self Service Portal. At the end you'll see an option of online update and offline update. Click on the online update link!

STEP- 4

New window of aadhaar will open. You just have to fill in the aadhaar number and click Send OTP.
This OTP will be received on the number registered on UIDAI.

STEP – 5

Select the local language and then select options of the data that has to be changed. Like in this case name is to be. You can also choose multiple options if you want to change more than one detail.

STEP – 6

Now in this step, you have to Upload the scanned copy of your PAN card so that your Aadhaar would be updated exactly as per your PAN card by the authorities. For more details on what documents need to be attached follow link.

>STEP – 7

After attaching document click on submit button and you will receive URN Number. Note down or save this number to track your aadhaar update progress.

This is all you need to do for applying for corrections in the aadhaar. Now if details in your aadhaar card are correct but not in PAN card, then you have to follow the different process.

Now let's start with the process of changing/ correcting the PAN details!

If your details in the PAN card are incorrect then don't worry you can apply either online or offline.

  • For offline application you have to download a form. Fill this form and submit it to the TIN center.
  • For online application to request changes in PAN you have to follow the process given below.

STEP-1

Go to the NSDL website www.tin-nsdl.com and scroll down to the end. You will see PAN. select it!
