    How to fix Profile Info Mismatch in New ITP

    The Income Tax Department launched its new Income tax portal on 7th June 2021 with a view to making the ITR process easier and faster. The new portal is designed for taxpayer’s convenience. However, change sometimes confuses people, like some taxpayers not being able to update their profile and contact details in the portal. In this guide, we will discuss how you can make changes to the new Income Tax Portal.

    Details that you can update on the income tax portal

    The income tax department categorized profile information into three categories as follows:

    • Personal Details like Name, Aadhaar number, Pan, and Tan details of the Taxpayer.
    • Contact details like address, phone number, and email address of the taxpayer.
    • Miscellaneous details are as follows:
      • Bank account and Demat account.
      • PAN - AO jurisdiction
      • Register DSC
      • Source of Income
      • Registration and certificates
      • Authorised signatories for income tax returns or forms

    Steps to update profile and contact details in the new e-filing portal:

    Step 1: Go to the new e-filing website and log in with credentials

    Step 2: Click on ‘My Profile’ from the dropdown in the top right corner.

    Step 3: Click on the edit option in the Profile section. This will display various details like Name, DOB, gender, PAN and its status, and Aadhar details. Citizenship and Passport details can also be added.

    Click on ‘Save’ once the details are edited.

    Step 4: Click on the ‘Edit’ option in the Contact section. Enter contact details like Phone number and email id for Primary and Secondary contacts.

    Contact information can be updated as per Aadhar by entering OTP after selecting the ‘Update as Aadhar’ option.

    Step 5: Enter Address. Certain fields are made mandatory, enter the required data, and Proceed to ‘Save.’

    On successful updating of Name and contact details, Click on ‘Save’ to update the income tax portal with the latest profile information.


    Steps to update miscellaneous details in the new income tax portal

    Upon logging into the portal to update your profile and contact details, consider utilizing the same interface to conveniently update miscellaneous information such as Bank and Demat account details. These options are accessible through the left-side menu, as illustrated in the image below:

    To update your address in Form 26AS, navigate to the official website and log in. Then, proceed to the 'Profile' tab, locate the 'Update Address' option, and provide the necessary details. Remember to upload supporting documents like Aadhaar or PAN card. After submission, your request will undergo verification, and upon approval, your address will be successfully updated in Form 26AS.
