What is verification of ITR ?

As per law, after filing income tax return, every taxpayer is compulsorily required to verify their return. Verification is done to authenticate that your return is filed by you only.This verification needs to be done within a period of 120 days from the date of filing ITR. Only when the return is verified, the income tax department picks up the ITR for further processing.


What are the ways to e-verify ?

Once you have verified return, it is always recommended to check ITR V status. The reason being, sometimes there might have been some issues with your ITR V which you may not be aware of. Like, ITR is not yet processed even after verifying it or your refund (if any) hasn't been credited etc.

Step by step procedure on how to know your ITR V receipt status :

Step 1: Visit income tax efiling website. Here at the bottom-left hand side, you will find option ITR Status, click on this.

Step 2: Now you will be redirected to the page as shown below. Here fill-in the required details like your Permanent Account Number (PAN), Acknowledgement Number (which you can find from ITR V Form).

After this, enter the Captcha Code shown in the box and click on Submit button.

Step 3: Your ITR V status will be visible in front of you (as shown in the screenshot below). If there is any discrepancy in ITR V, then the message will be shown accordingly.
