New Numbers for Income Tax Forms: Changes effective from April 1, 2026

Updated on: 16 Apr, 2026 03:03 PM

India’s tax system is undergoing a major compliance reset with the introduction of the Income-tax Rules, 2026, replacing decades-old frameworks under the Income-tax Act, 1961. From FY 2026–27, the Income Tax Department is introducing a new numbering system for key tax forms.

This change is part of the transition to the updated tax framework and aims to make compliance more structured and standardised.

Important to note: This is a renaming exercise — not a change in how taxes are Calculated.
