E-verify income tax return

E-verification is a mandatory process for electronically filed income tax returns (ITRs) in India. IE-verification is usually required within 30 days of filing the ITR. If you fail to verify your return within the stipulated time, it will be considered incomplete.

There are two primary methods of e-verification:

Aadhaar OTP:

  • This is the most common method.
  • After submitting your ITR online, you'll receive a one-time password (OTP) on your registered mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card.
  • Enter this OTP within the specified time limit on the e-filing portal to complete the verification process.

Electronic Verification Code (EVC):

  • If you're unable to receive the Aadhaar OTP, you can opt for EVC verification.
  • You'll need to generate an EVC using your PAN and mobile number.
  • Once generated, enter the EVC on the e-filing portal to verify your return.
