What is NITI Aayog?

The NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India is a policy think tank and a government body in India. NITI Aayog was formed on January 1, 2015, after dissolving the Planning Commission. The NITI Aayog is an important forum for formulating cooperative federalism and strategic policy. Its primary focus lies in fostering sustainable and inclusive economic growth, underpinned by a culture of strategic thinking and innovation. Collaborating closely with state governments, subject matter experts, industry stakeholders, and international organizations, the NITI Aayog works towards achieving development goals through a concerted and holistic approach.

Features of NITI Aayog

NITI Aayog is proactively positioning itself as an advanced resource center equipped with the requisite expertise and agility to boost rapid decision-making, drive research and innovation, offer a strategic policy roadmap for the government, and effectively address unpredictable challenges. Supported by the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Organization (DMEO), the flagship initiative Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), and the autonomous entity National Institute of Labour Economics Research and Development (NILERD), NITI Aayog operates under four key pillars:
