ITR-V: What is ITR-V, How to Download

What is ITR-V?

ITR-V is a short abbreviation of ‘Income Tax Return – Verification.’ ITR-V or ITR verification is a form that is used to check the authenticity of the Income Tax Return Filing when someone e-files the ITR form without using a digital signature / Aadhaar OTP/ EVC mode. 

The Income Tax Department verifies the authenticity of an online ITR filing using the ITR verification form.

ITR-V or ITR verification is a one-page acknowledgment/receipt of the income tax return filed by the taxpayer. It needs to be signed and sent to the Income Tax Office in Bengaluru. The address of the Bengaluru office is “Income Tax Department – CPC, Post Box No – 1, Electronic City P. O., Bengaluru – 560500, Karnataka.

An electronic verification option has also been introduced, i.e., a hard copy is not required to be sent. 

A specimen of ITR acknowledgment generated after  Successfully filing of the ITR Form / Income tax return has been attached for your reference. The Income Tax Department will send an ITR acknowledgment via an e-mail on the registered eMail with the receipt of the signed copy of the ITR-V form. 

How to download the ITR-V form?

The steps to get the ITR-V form are as follows: 

  • LOGIN to the e-filing portal 

  • Visit e-file section

  • View Income tax Returns

  • Click on View Filed Returns 

  • Now, download the ITR verification form for the relevant Assessment Year.

Note: The ITR-V or ITR verification form is compulsory to send in a sealed A-4 sized envelope to the address of the Bengaluru office mentioned above for a successful ITR filing.
